Chris Evans And Hugo Weaving To Attend San Diego Comic-Con!

Check out this statement from a reporter over at nerdreactor.com for news on Cap showing up at Comic-Con...

"We posted about how Marvel Studios will be opting out of Hall H during San Diego Comic-Con 2011, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t have other plans in mind when it comes to the biggest comic book convention in the world.

So I’ve just got the news from one of my reliable sources that Captain America: The First Avenger will be having a big presence at San Diego Comic-Con 2011. How big? Well big enough to have two of its main stars be there along with a special movie screening before the release of the movie. That’s right, Chris Evans and Hugo Weaving will be at San Diego Comic-Con 2011 for one day. The movie screening location is still unknown, but word on the street is that it will all happen on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 10am. We’re not sure how fans will get a chance to attend, but it’s likely they might throw some sort of raffle to lucky Comic-Con goers.

Marvel Studios has released a press release on the start of production for Marvel's The Avengers as well as the first photo from the set!

Production has commenced today in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Marvel Studios' highly anticipated movie "Marvel's The Avengers," directed by Joss Whedon ("Serenity") from a screenplay by Whedon. The film will continue principal photography in Cleveland, Ohio and New York City. Robert Downey, Jr. ("Iron Man," "Iron Man 2") returns as the iconic Tony Stark/Iron Man along with Chris Hemsworth ("Thor") as Thor, Chris Evans ("Captain America: The First Avenger") as Captain America, Jeremy Renner ("Thor," "The Hurt Locker") as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo ("The Kids Are Alright") as Hulk, Scarlett Johansson ("Iron Man 2") as Black Widow, Clark Gregg ("Iron Man," "Thor") as Agent Phil Coulson, and Samuel L. Jackson ("Iron Man," "Iron Man 2") as Nick Fury. Set for release in the US on May 4, 2012, "Marvel's The Avengers" is the first feature to be fully owned, marketed and distributed by Disney, which acquired Marvel in 2009.

Continuing the epic big-screen adventures started in "Iron Man," "The Incredible Hulk," "Iron Man 2," "Thor," and "Captain America: The First Avenger," "Marvel's The Avengers" is the super hero team up of a lifetime. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.

Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1963, "Marvel's The Avengers" brings together the mightiest super hero characters as they all assemble together on screen for the first time. The star studded cast of super heroes will be joined by Cobie Smulders ("How I Met Your Mother) as Agent Maria Hill of S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as Tom Hiddleston ("Wallander") and Stellan SkarsgÄrd ("Angels & Demons," "Mamma Mia!") who will both reprise their respective roles as Loki and Professor Erik Selvig from the upcoming Marvel Studios' feature "Thor."

"Marvel's The Avengers" is being produced by Marvel Studios' President, Kevin Feige, and executive produced by Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Louis D'Esposito, Patty Whitcher, and Jon Favreau. Marvel Studios' Jeremy Latcham and Victoria Alonso will co-produce.

The creative production team also includes Oscar nominated director of photography Seamus McGarvey ("Atonement"), production designer James Chinlund ("25th Hour"), Oscar winning costume designer Alexandra Byrne ("Elizabeth: The Golden Age"), Oscar winning visual effects supervisor Janek Sirrs ("Iron Man 2," "The Matrix"), visual effects producer Susan Pickett ("Iron Man," "Iron Man 2"), stunt coordinator R.A. Rondell ("Superman Returns"), and four-time Oscar nominated special effects supervisor Dan Sudick ("Iron Man," "War of the Worlds"). The editors include Oscar nominated Paul Rubell ("Collateral") and Jeffrey Ford ("Crazy Heart").

Marvel Studios most recently produced "Iron Man 2" which was released in theatres on May 7, 2010. The sequel to "Iron Man," starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow as well as Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson and Mickey Rourke, took the number one spot its first weekend with a domestic box office gross of $128.1 million. To date the film has earned over $620 million in worldwide box office receipts.

In the summer of 2008, Marvel produced the summer blockbuster movies, "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk." "Iron Man," in which Robert Downey, Jr. originally dons the super hero's powerful armor alongside co-stars Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges and Gwyneth Paltrow, was released May 2, 2008 and was an immediate box office success. Garnering the number one position for two weeks in a row, the film brought in over $100 million its opening weekend and grossed over $571 million worldwide. On June 13, 2008, Marvel released "The Incredible Hulk" marking its second number one opener of that summer. The spectacular revival of the iconic green goliath grossed over $250 million in worldwide box office receipts.

Captain America: Super Soldier Stars Chris Evans

Video games based on movies get a bad rap, but a movie-based game without its movie star is even more prone to mudslinging and eye rolling. Luckily, Captain America: Super Soldier -- the multiplatform title tied to this summer's Cap movie -- won't fall into that voiceover trap.

Today, SEGA announced Chris Evans, the star of the film, will lend his likeness and voice to the game.

Chris Evans & Evan Rachel Wood in Gucci ad

ROME — “There’s something appropriate about the name Guilty coming out of Rome. It’s a very Catholic word,” said “Sin City” creator Frank Miller here on Tuesday for the preview of Gucci’s new women’s fragrance, dubbed Gucci Guilty and slated to hit shelves worldwide in September.

Miller directed the scent’s TV advertising campaign — his first film foray for a fashion house — a sexy love tryst set against a futuristic cityscape filmed in his cartoon aesthetic style and featuring actors Evan Rachel Wood and Chris Evans. The ad was shot in Rome’s famed CinecittĂ  Studio. “When I found out we were shooting in the same studio he used, I thought I would either be inspired or drowned in some very big shoes, ” said Miller, who revealed he has the script ready for “Sin City 2” and the story for “Sin City 3.”

Moving from one ancient civilization to another, Miller’s new graphic novel, “Xerxes” — a prequel to “300,” a tale of Spartan glory in ancient Greece — is set for release in 2011.

Wood joined Miller, Gucci creative director Frida Giannini, chief executive officer Patrizio Di Marco and 120 guests for dinner and a 3-D preview of the commercial here on Monday night. Wood revealed she had learned Italian for her role in HBO’s forthcoming miniseries “Mildred Pierce,” alongside Kate Winslet and directed by Todd Haynes.“I play an opera singer, and a couple of months before we started shooting I studied Italian and German so I could lip-synch,” she said. The all-black-clad actress is also looking forward to the release of Robert Redford’s film “The Conspirator,” in which she stars with Robin Wright, slated to hit screens later this year. “I’m such a ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’ fan. Every time he came over, I got a little flustered.”

It’s not only Wood’s face that gets a featured role in Gucci’s 60-second spot, but her ankle tattoo does too — “an homage to Pink Floyd’s ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond.’” Giannini noticed that Wood and Evans both had matching body art.

“Her tattoo is part of her character, so we left it in. We didn’t want to transform her into someone else,” said an upbeat Giannini. She said the ad’s fittingly noir soundtrack is courtesy of London-based band Friendly Fires and its cover version of Depeche Mode’s song ‘Strange Love.’

Captain America’s cowl weighed heavily on Chris Evans

a fanmade pic, for more click the following link:
http://marcel0.deviantart.com/art/Captain-America-Concept-Art-162150052

Chris Evans considered turning down his role as Captain America because he was reluctant to tackle a potentially “life-changing role.” The “Fantastic Four” star - and Sudbury homeboy - has landed the lead in upcoming comic-book blockbuster “The First Avenger: Captain America,” opposite British newcomer Hayley Atwell. But the actor, 28, admitted he had reservations about signing up for such a high-profile part, as he feels more comfortable on the sidelines in a supporting role. He told Britain’s Empire maggie: “It was a couple of weeks weighing all the options. There was certainly a period where I was shying away from the movie. It’s intimidating. It’s pretty daunting. There’s certainly a life-changing role there and that was part of the process,” he said. “Did I want to take this on? I like supporting roles, I like the way my life is now and I have the best of both worlds. This would potentially change that. But you know what? This could be a good thing.” And Evans revealed he has never read a Captain America story so he’s preparing for the role by catching up on his comic-book reading.

Marvel Studios Talks Chris Evans as Captain America: The First Avenger

Kevin Fiege discusses casting Chris Evans

Fans of the Marvel comic book character Captain America will want to make sure that they don't miss the new Marvel film Iron Man 2, opening on May 7th, as something long associated with the hero makes a brief appearance. In fact, the character's equipment actually had similar cameos in the first Iron Man film and in a deleted scene from The Incredible Hulk, proving that Marvel has been planning for some time to bring the character's adventures to the big screen. It was recently announced that actor Chris Evans would be donning the red, white and blue costume of the WWII hero, first in Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger and later in Joss Whedon's The Avengers. The actor already has quite a comic book film resume already having appeared as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch
in both Fantastic Four and it's sequel Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer, as well as the recent film The Losers and this summer's upcoming Edgar Wright directed film, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

Yesterday, we had a chance to sit down with Marvel Studios President of Production, Kevin Fiege, while he was out promoting Iron Man 2. We asked Fiege if he had any concerns with casting Chris Evans in the pivotal role because of his close association to another Marvel character and his comic book film resume? This is what he had to say:
"Yeah, I mean The Losers and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World I don't think so but frankly yeah, I didn't even consider him for a long time because of the Human Torch. I didn't purposely not consider him but he wasn't on the radar. Frankly I was watching for other reasons Sunshine again, then I was talking to Edgar Wright about him and I started to see how he is growing. By the way I thought he was great in those two Fantastic Four movies, he was a standout in those movies. I started to look at how he's grown since then. We sat down and talked in a meeting and I said, oh my God, Steve Rodgers is sitting in front of me right now and I hadn't seen it for a long time. When we sat down and specifically started talking about Cap, yeah it was immediate. Cause Cap has a lot of size and is nothing like Johnny Storm. As you start to see more of Chris and where he is growing as an actor it's into a much more Steve Rodgers type place. He's in England now; he got on one of the first flights after the volcano nonsense went away. He's over there now prepping and rehearsing and the pictures that are coming back and the costume tests are pretty stunning."

Chris Evans may star in 'The Losers,' but he's on a winning streak

by Ethan Sacks
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Slapping on some knee pads and having a stretch, Chris Evans got ready to do a Parkour-style stunt – scampering up the side of a building for an action-packed scene in "The Losers."

"I said, "Okay can the stuntman just show me what he's doing just once," says the 28-year-old actor, on the phone from Los Angeles. "And the stuntman just scaled up this building."
With that, Evans made his move.

"I said, "Okay I'll be in my trailer, good luck guys," the actor says with a laugh. "I don't know who the hell I thought I was thinking I could touch my toes a few times and go out there and scale a building."
He'll have to get used to it. In "The Losers," opening Friday, Evans plays a wise-cracking computer expert who is part of a special ops unit that ends up being framed for a horrendous attack.

And before he can catch his breath, Evans will next don the star-spangled costume of Captain America, having beaten a legion of other Hollywood hunks to land the high-profile super hero franchise.

Considering you were playing a special ops soldier in "The Losers," do you have any war stories from filming on location in the jungle in Puerto Rico?

My personal war story just had to do with the weather. I'm not built for the heat. I'm Irish-Italian from Boston. I sweat, I burn. In Puerto Rico you're looking at 100 degrees with 100% humidity in army fatigues on. It was not an easy experience for me. Everyone else was loving it.

Danny Boyle, who directed you in 2007's "Sunshine," told the Daily News that you were an incredibly underappreciated talent. But do you feel that's about to change with these movies?

I definitely am optimistic about the films that are coming out. I think it's no secret that I've been a part of a few films that have missed the mark. And it's upsetting when that happens. It's a disappointment when a film comes out and it's not what you hoped it would be.

Comic book fans are particularly protective of Captain America. Does that shield feel heavy under all that pressure?

As far as the physicality goes, that comes from the serum, and I think special effects will help me carry the load. As far as who he is as a man, the reason he's chosen for this experiment, is because he has a pure heart. I actually have a friend of mine who I'm modeling the character after. This guy is actually an Eagle Scout, he's one of those guys who stayed in the boys scouts all the way until he was 18. He's just a good human being. He does the right things. It's an exciting character to play. A lot of time I play characters who don't have redeeming qualities. (Laughs.)

Besides Captain America, you also played the Human Torch in "Fantastic Four" and "The Losers" is also based on a comic, have you had any close encounters with rabid fans?

These people want it to be good so desperately that you so desperately want to give them what they're looking for. The last time at WonderCon, we were in the middle of an interview, and I had to run to the bathroom. I raced around the corner and I threw open the bathroom door and as I was walked in, I literally bumped right into a Stormtrooper. He just washed his hands, and he picked up his helmet and blaster. And I just ran into him. I just laughed the whole time I was in the bathroom. What a great place.

How did you go from a high school student in Boston who loved watching films to breaking into Hollywood?

I wrote a bunch of letters to casting directors around New York City, and I just said, "Listen, I'm 16 years old, I'm looking to do this for a living, I just want to learn. I'll get you coffee. I'll make photocopies." My parents and I went in on a little short term apartment lease in Brooklyn … it was the size of a closet. And I ended up getting an internship at Bonnie Finegan casting and she was casting for "Spin City." My duties were to set up these actors to come in and audition, so all day I'm talking to agents on the phone. By the end of the summer, I was relatively friendly with two or three.
I said to a couple of them, "Is there anyway you can give me five minutes and I can come down there and I can read for you." One of them said, "Sure." I went down there and auditioned and he signed me. I graduated from high school that January and went right back to New York and oddly enough got the same apartment and got the same internship, but was just auditioning in my spare time. But I just got really lucky, I got a part in a pilot in February or March and it got picked up and that's what took me to LA at the end of 1999.

The Losers shows why Chris Evans IS Captain America

by Fred Topel

The Losers is going to benefit a lot from Chris Evans' recent casting as Captain America. It's a cool comic-book-style action movie for sure, and one of the things that makes it so cool is that The Losers makes a strong case for Evans as Cap.

The Losers are a team of black-ops soldiers who are betrayed on a mission and left for dead. A mysterious stranger offers them a chance to get back in the game and clear their names. Covert missions, tactical espionage, high-tech weapons, blah blah blah. They banter and kick some butt and it's fun.

Evans plays Jensen, the wisecracking hacker type. It's a standard role in a ragtag gang of action heroes, but Evans elevates it beyond one-liners. He can have fun with comic-book situations but stay out of the wink-wink territory. The Losers find themselves in some crazy situations, and Jensen's the first to say something funny about it.

That's good. We want there to be humor with Steve Rogers. He's not quite the brooding Dark Knight type. We just don't want him to be the goofy Human Torch type. The Losers shows he knows the difference and he'll play it cool, and it'll work. Evans can be funny and keep you believing that he's taking out security guards with finger guns or singing Journey while going undercover.

His interaction with the group bodes really well for The Avengers. Once Evans gets his own movie as The First Avenger: Captain America, he's going to have to play with the others. In The Losers, he relishes the hell out of his individual moments, but he lets the other guys have theirs. He doesn't need to hog the spotlight when he's already got the best lines. He can let those simmer while other people do their scenes.

Evans can handle the action, but of course we've seen that before. I've always thought he could bring a certain reality to the crazy material in action movies, whether it's the high-concept Cellular or the genre formula Push. Neither of those movies stood out, but you believed Evans in them. He was clearly having the right amount of fun in the Fantastic Four movies. The Losers is good enough material to elevate him out of the sort of "working actor you kind of recognize" category. He's already got the part, but The Losers would be the right audition for A-list action movies. You know, the kind with explosions AND stories.

And really, just superficially, but maybe most importantly, the man is totally ripped. There's a scene where he's changing in an elevator, and his T-shirt is slicked to his chest like latex and he's just bursting out of it. This is just for a regular movie. Imagine when he trains for Captain America. He's got the body of a comic-book character, and as much as you guys might pretend you're not looking, he's buff and he'll fill that costume.

So if you're worried about whether Evans is right to play Steve Rogers, go see The Losers. Then stop worrying.

The story behind the shirt

Last week we showed you a pretty picture of Sudbury-bred actor Chris Evans wearing a long-sleeve T-shirt with the numbers 617 across the chest. Today we can tell you where the Boston shirt came from. Apparently, Evans was modeling a new line of clothing and accessories by Sudbury designers Becky Foley and Melissa McCray. The duo’s Toph Daddy apparel company, which they run with their merchandising pal Hilary Gallagher, features fashions emblazoned with area codes designed for those who want to show off their geographic loyalty. The women have actually trademarked area codes in all major markets so that no one can steal their idea. The 617 shirt made its way to “Fantastic Four’’ star Evans through Shanna Evans, Chris’s sister, who has baby-sat for the designers’ kids. The Toph Daddy women didn’t know that Evans had added the shirt to his regular rotation until they saw Chris’s picture in the Globe. Quite obviously, they were thrilled with the product placement. Chris was recently chosen to play “Captain America’’ in a big-budget adaptation of the comic book.

Chris Evans is Captain America

(a fanmade pic that circulates on the internet)

Chris Evans accepts 'Captain America' mantle

Chris Evans will play Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America.
Sources tell us the actor has not only accepted Marvel's offer, first detailed on Friday, but that the dealmaking moved so fast it's now all about dotting the i's and crossing the t's.
Marvel would not comment on the development, and CAA, which reps the actor, declined comment.

Evans was offered the role in Marvel Studios' production last week, but there was some question of whether he would accept. Factoring in to the choice was the fact that Evans played Johnny Storm, the flame-covered superhero known as the Human Torch in Fox's "Fantastic Four" movies. Was he ready to play another superhero and take on the trappings that come with such a high-profile part?

Evans took a few days to think it over, and once he decided he was willing to wield the shield, negotiations moved quickly over the weekend.

Chris Evans offered role of Captain America

Chris Evans is one step closer to the role of Captain America.
Sources tell us the actor, who once donned superhero garb in two "Fantastic Four" movies, has been offered the role of Captain America.
Marvel has not confirmed the development and CAA, which reps the actor, declined to comment.
Evans' offer would include starring in up to three "America" movies plus "The Avengers" movies and appearances in several other Marvel movies. While an offer to star in "America" may seem like something you don't have to mull over too long, one possible complication is that Evans is committed to co-starring in the Anna Faris romantic comedy "What's Your Number?" Both are scheduled to shoot this summer.

The role of Captain America and his alter ego Steve Rogers has been one of the most heavily scrutinized parts by the industry, the media and the comic book fandom in recent memory.
Evans wasn’t in the initial round of actors being considered, which for the most part leaned to the newcomer side. Michael Cassidy, Patrick Flueger, Scott Porter, Wilson Blethel and Mike Vogel, on top of John Krasinski and Chace Crawford, were those testing and reading. Garrett Hedlund was also someone Marvel was interested in.
Evans, who did not screen test, already has a relationship with Marvel, having starred as Johnny Storm, the fire-covered superhero in the two “Fantastic Four” movies that Fox released in 2005 and 2007. There is some question whether fans would be accepting of an actor who already played a Marvel superhero just a few years ago, but given that the movies were not well embraced, with no one faulting the actors, Evans might have a clean slate with moviegoers.
Joe Johnston is directing “America,” which shoots in England.
Evans, also repped by 3 Arts Entertainment, has the DC Comics adaptation “The Losers” in the can and also appears in “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” Edgar Wright’s adaptation of the popular Oni Press graphic novel series.

Chris Evans for Captain America?

Who wields the shield? 'Captain America' casting update

Who will wield the shield?
The answer of whom will hold Captain America’s shield and play alter ego Steve Rogers is still in Marvel’s hands, but the list of actors is being whittled down.

Wilson Bethel, who starred in HBO’s “Generation Kill” and currently appearing in “The Young and the Restless,” is still in the running as is Mike Vogel, who appeared in “Cloverfield” and CBS’ “Miami Medical.”

Meanwhile, Chris Evans, currently shooting "Safety Point" in Texas, has read for the part and has a test offer which may come to fruition next week. Garrett Hedlund has not tested yet though Marvel is very keen on him.

Actors previously reported as testing including John Krasinski, Michael Cassidy, Chace Crawford, among others, are no longer on the list.

The part calls for a nine-picture deal, the second of which would be the “Avengers” movie. That project could start shooting as soon as January 2011.

Taking a shot on relative unknowns such as Bethel and Vogel is not out of the realm of possibility as many tentpoles and franchises are handing out the keys to up-and-comers. Paramount and J.J. Abrams took a chance on Chris Pine to play Capt. Kirk while James Cameron put his trust in Sam Worthington.

What's Your Number?

Anna Faris And Chris Evans Ask 'What’s Your Number?' In New Rom Com

Is Anna Faris the new go to girl for female focused versions of male-driven comedies? Two weeks ago we learned the “House Bunny” actress will co-star with Jennifer Garner in “The Bachelorette Party,” a comedy pitched as a female version of “The Hangover."
She remains a rumored choice for the role of the first female Ghostbuster in “Ghostbusters III.” And now she’s set for an R-rated rom-com titled “What’s Your Number?” that sounds loosely like a woman’s take on “High Fidelity.”

According to Variety , Anna will play a woman who realizes she’s had too many sexual partners and so pays a visit to all her ex-loves in order to “find the man of her dreams.” Basically, she’s desperate to settle down and believes one of these former boyfriends was the one that got away. She’s just not sure which. Along for the personal journey is her playboy neighbor (Chris Evans). Who wants to bet she falls for him rather than on one of the exes?

Anna and Chris are a promising pairing. Both are underrated performers who make their fair share of Hollywood fluff (she’s best known for the “Scary Movie” franchise, while he’s best known for “Fantastic Four”), yet each has shown real acting talent in dramatic films like “Brokeback Mountain” and “Sunshine,” respectively. Anna is still primarily a brilliant comedic force, even in serious fare, so it’s not like this talent is wasted on romantic comedies. If anything, she raises the profile of the genre.

“What’s Your Number?” is based on Karyn Bosnak’s debut novel “20 Times a Lady,” which was first adapted by Bosnack and then polished by sitcom writers Jennifer Crittenden (“Seinfeld”) and Gabrielle Allan (“Scrubs”). “Entourage” producer and director Mark Mylod will begin shooting the movie this May.

'Pilgrim' Pride

By Inside Track (bostonherald.com)
Tuesday, December 8, 2009

Sudbury homey Chris Evans had a helluva time filming his new flick “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” thanks to his laugh-a-minute co-stars Jason Schwartzman and Michael Cera .

“You realize how not funny you are,” Evans told the Track. “I’m not gonna try and keep up with those guys. They are hilarious. You think they’re funny in movies, but wait ’til you get on set with them.”

Evans, who also starred in “Push” and “Fantastic Four,” said his co-stars, best known for “Bored To Death” and “Juno” respectively, really let it rip when they were in the gym working out.
“It’s a physical movie, so there’s a lot of action sequences,” he said. “Every day we had to do some physical training like lift weights and run around. Now, you got Michael and Jason in the gym and they’re like the bad kids in class. They won’t stop messing with each other or cracking jokes. They had to be separated.”
