Chris interview with the Boston Herald

For Sudbury star Chris Evans, a supernatural ‘Push’

By Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa Monday, January 26, 2009 for The Boston Herald's Inside Track

“Fantastic Four” star Chris Evans has leftie politics in his blood. But the Sudbury homey still didn’t make it to President Obama’s inauguration.

“I wish I could have been in D.C., actually. My uncle (Mike Capuano) is a congressman and used to be the mayor of Somerville . I was going to go bother him, but I figured he’d be busy,” Evans told the Track.
Apparently the Evans brood bleeds blue.

“My family is insanely left. Are you kidding me? Absolutely. John McCain - just the name is blasphemous,” said Johnny Storm’s alter ego.
In his new flick, “Push,” with kid superstar Dakota Fanning, Evans plays a young expatriate with telekinetic and telepathic abilities who has to hide from a government agency. The movie was filmed in Hong Kong, where Bay State hacks wouldn’t last a minute!

“The work ethic over there is not like it is over here. They’re ready to work 14- to 15-hour days with a 20-minute lunch break. It’s not exactly the luxurious set that some actors are used to,” he said.
In his last film, “Fantastic Four,” Chris also played a superhero, but he swears he’s not being typecast.
“I think in order to be typecast, they have to be coming to you specifically to play these roles,” he said. “These are all parts I’ve fought for. It’s not like these are the only parts I’m getting offered.”

So, Chris, if you could have one superpower, what would it be???

“I’m going with flight. It’s always been flight,” he said. “Ever since I was a little kid. I think we’ve all jumped off the deck.”
Actually, Chris used his high-flying bravado to help his career take off at the ripe ol’ age of 15 when he scored a summer internship at Bonnie Finnegan Casting in New York.
“I wrote about 20 letters saying, ‘Look, I’m 15. I want to act. I’ll get your coffee,’ ” he said. “Bonnie responded and I sat there answering phones all day. I was pretty friendly with a couple of agents and convinced them to see me.”

Fantastic.

Evans will head to Toronto for his next project, “Scott Topher vs. The World,” (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World??) but said filming a flick in Boston “would be a dream.”
“Anytime I hear a movie that might be filming in Boston, it shoots up on my priority list,” he said. “I did grow up in Sudbury, but all my friends live in Boston, so we pretty much hit sleazy, dirty Boston bars.”
